—  Gas service—

In order for your fireplace to perform safely and efficiently, it requires seasonal maintenance. Gas fireplaces and stoves can be rather complicated devices. They incorporate shut-off systems that turn the gas to the appliance off if the pilot flame goes out. Over time sediments from the gas supply accumulate on the glass front of the fireplace and needs to be removed. A layer of dust builds up on the heat exchange area of the fireplace that when burned, gives off a "chemical" smell. Also, fan systems need to be cleaned in order to keep them working correctly. As such, Northern Lights Fireplace is proud to offer gas fireplace cleaning and repair to our neighbors. During routine service, the following operations may be performed on your gas fireplace:

  • Fire chamber: The fire chamber will be thoroughly cleaned and inspected for damage. The logs will be set in their correct location (yes, there is a specific way that the logs were intended to be installed and are often placed incorrectly). New ember material will be placed on the burn pan, the air/fuel mixture may be adjusted, and the burn pan will be inspected for damage.

  • The heat exchange area will be cleaned in order to minimize odor into the home.

  • The gas shut off "safety" system will be examined for proper operation.

  • Voltage and resistance checks of the gas train will be performed in order to prevent intermittent or future problems.

  • The fan system will be cleaned and inspected.

  • Remote control, wall switch, and/or thermostat operation will be verified.

  • A gas leak test will be preformed on the fireplace.

  • Recommendations and upgrades will be given based on information obtained during the service.

A flat fee will be quoted when booking the appointment. This covers the above operations. If further repair is needed, the technician will discuss this with the homeowner before continuing.
